Mother’s Day

Hello! Welcome to Haven Midwifery and my first official post. What other day would be more appropriate to start off my blog posts than Mother’s Day! If it weren’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be where I am today and I think most people can say that about their moms as well. Moms are amazing. Period. They give up their bodies to grow you and then endure the most intense experience ever to birth you and then they still have the heart to take care of you for…well, forever! And not just provide the basics for you but also the emotional support and unconditional love that shapes you into the human being that you are. As a midwife, I have the honor of seeing women blossom into mothers over and over again and the transformation is beautiful. Absolutely amazing. The moment when a mother first holds her baby and they gaze into each others eyes, is to me, the best part of being a midwife.

My mom birthed 5 children and adopted another. She was fortunate enough to have a husband (my dad) who was a physician and caught all 6 of us! Though we were all born in the hospital, my mom always did it natural and my dad supported her in this decision. I do not know how my mom raised us hooligans but she did and always with patience and stead-fast love. So cheers, mom! THANK YOU for growing me, birthing me and caring for me every day since I entered this world. And to all you other mothers out there, my deepest respect to you for stepping into the selfless act of motherhood with such beauty and grace.

We are very excited to open our doors next month! We are sharing space with Dr. Craig Moore’s Fairhaven Family & Sports Medicine in what used to be the Cascade Joinery Building just off Harris Street. The building was designed with fantastic attention to detail and is a beautiful, modern and inviting space that is perfect for our new clinic. There are fantastic views of Bellingham Bay and the Canadian mountain ranges to the north. Really, it’s the perfect location for Haven Midwifery. Let us know if you would like a tour!
